NEW FOUND GLORY 'Coming Home' Emerald + Custard Vinyl LP

The Palm Beach PostA−Rock Sound9/10Coming Home garnered nearly universal acclaim from music critics upon its release and has become widely regarded as one of the band's best releases. Praise often centered on the album's "matured, nuanced songwriting" and slower musicianship. Corey Apar of AllMusic awarded the album a four star rating and praised the "at-ease spirit of Coming Home".

Delivery time is estimated using our proprietary method which is based on the buyer's proximity to the item location, the shipping service selected, the seller's shipping history, and other factors. It is dead quiet, there's not a hiss, hum, or static to be heard anywhere from the moment the needle drops. This isn't the sort of release I'd expect to find among my best sounding records, but it very much is. Overall, this marked a drop in performance in comparison to their previous two releases; Catalyst and Sticks and Stones debuted on the Billboard 200 at number three and four respectively, each going on to sell over 500,000 units. However, with just the sole single release of "It's Not Your Fault", the band have cited a lack of promotion and support from Geffen Records as a factor.

On January 25, 2017, the band's next album, Makes Me Sick was announced for release on April 28. The first single "Happy Being Miserable", along with its music video, was released on February 15, 2017. The influence for the music video came from the pie eating scene from the movie Stand By Me. The album debuted at number eight on the Billboard Rock Albums chart and number nineteen on the Billboard 200. The album was the band's last release on a major label, as they left Geffen Records the following year before signing with independent labels Bridge Nine and the long running Epitaph Records. Drawing influence from classic rock, the album features piano, keyboards and string sections to create slower and more melodic songs.

Mixed by Mark Trombino (blink-182, Jimmy Eat World), Make The Most Of It is a rumination on what it means to grieve, to live and to approach every day with appreciation and a sense of fulfillment. The video for second single "Don't Let Her Pull You Down" premiered on October 15, and was released on October 20 via limited orange and sky blue vinyl prints. On October 17 the band played a free show for around 120 fans packed into the studio where the band played a setlist made up of fan requests. Pundik later stated the band name was created while he and Klein were working at Red Lobster together; "We came up with A New Found Glory, we wrote it on a napkin. I think we pulled some of it from "A Newfound Interest in Massachusetts" by the Get Up Kids". The band recorded their debut EP, It's All About the Girls in a friend's apartment, and the EP was distributed by local independent label Fiddler Records. Soon after, Marino was replaced by current drummer Cyrus Bolooki after two rehearsal sessions.

Coming Home (New Found Glory album)

With no focus on the record in the immediate aftermath, Pundik recalls, "Everything fell apart and Coming Home was just forgotten about. The record didn't stand a chance." In November and December 2006, they embarked on a short UK tour with Say Anything. Later the label would offer the band a new contract under a subsidiary label called Octone Records, however the band declined and parted ways with the label in early 2007. Despite this, the band continued to tour in support of the album, touring with Fall Out Boy in January 2007.

Longtime rhythm guitarist and lyricist Steve Klein left the band in late 2013. During their lengthy recording career, the band have released ten studio albums, one live album, two EPs, and four cover albums. Magazine called the album a "massive departure" and suggested that, "NFG are taking what will be, by far, the biggest gamble of their career. Some of you won't even recognise them immediately; it's not fast, it's not forced, but - in an entirely new way - it soars." In an earlier Kerrang!

Tracklist

In December of 2021, the band released December's Here, a collection of 10 original Christmas songs through Hopeless Records. Shortly after this, guitarist Chad Gilbert shared that he had been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called pheochromocytoma. After two weeks in the hospital, surgeons were able to remove the cancer. On February 20, 2019, the band released the first song/video off their new cover series EP From The Screen To Your Stereo 3.

The band went on to tour up and down the East Coast and quickly sold out the entire pressing of the EP. The band's underground success soon caught the attention of Eulogy Recordings and the quintet subsequently signed shortly afterwards in order to increase distribution of their music. The International Superheroes of Hardcore is a side project of all members of the band and features Gilbert on vocals and Pundik on guitar, with the remaining members playing the same instruments they play in New Found Glory. All the members use pseudonyms for their "characters" in the band (e.g. Gilbert is known as "Captain Straightedge"). The band also recorded an internet-only music video for "Dig My Own Grave" with director Joseph Pattisall.

Drive-Thru subsequently signed the five-piece and paid Eulogy $5,000 to license Nothing Gold Can Stay, which went on to sell more than 300,000 copies. Written in the F major key with a slow tempo of 61 bpm, "When I Die" was penned by guitarist Chad Gilbert about his father's death. The song contains keys, driving guitars and a prominent string section, seeing it described as "low key" and one of "the most beautiful moments" on Coming Home. "Oxygen" is composed in the B minor key at 78 bpm, and has been noted for displaying characteristics found throughout Coming Home. Boasting "stuttering rhythms and full-bodied guitars", the track has been described as a "grand love ballad" that is "serious in tone but retains the group's ability to produce a catchy hook."

The release showcased a temporary move to an alternative rock style instead of their usual pop punk sound. The quintet returned to their energetic roots with the release of Not Without a Fight in 2009. They have since released four more albums; Radiosurgery in 2011, Resurrection in 2014, Makes Me Sick in 2017, and their tenth studio album Forever + Ever x Infinity in 2020. On September 11, 2006, Coming Home was made available for streaming via the band's PureVolume account.

Timeline

Critics have praised the band for their ability to write infectious hooks and the sincerity of their lyrics, often about growing up and relationships. Chad Gilbert has noted that, "if the delivery is honest and real, that's what keeps it from being the corniest thing you've ever heard before. New Found Glory is a band that people enjoy listening to not because we give off this harsh message. We write about who we are and what affects us in life and those are our relationships". Bassist Ian Grushka has stated that "all of the lyrics are based on real life experiences. A song can be created from something one of us is going through or a conversation we've had." While also adding, "We only really talk about personal things that have affected us first-hand, our songs are about emotions rather than some political agenda." Rhythm guitarist Steve Klein was the band's primary lyricist, while lead guitarist Chad Gilbert is the main composer of the songs. Although since the recording of Coming Home, Klein, Pundik and Gilbert all worked on lyrics together.

"It's Not Your Fault" was released to radio on July 25; that same day, "Hold My Hand" was posted online. The music video for "It's Not Your Fault" would eventually make its worldwide debut on August 1 through Total Request Live. A week prior to the album's release, the band posted a mock open letter to Lionel Richie, who was also about to release a new album of the same name the following week. The band jokingly threatened to name their next project Dancing on the Ceiling (Richie's 1986 album), writing, "Congrats this week on the release of your new CD Coming Home - what an awesome title! Sounds familiar though, where did we hear that before? Oh yeah, it's the name of our new CD which drops Tues. Sept. 19. Our new single and video is 'It's Not Your Fault.' Hey...we haven't heard your song yet...Send us a copy."
